The play

In Horváth's little Dance of Death from 1932, Elisabeth's search for work and happiness is broken by the narrow-mindedness and indifference of her fellow human beings. Her tragic struggle begins full of hope, ends in betrayal and despair and finally in suicide.

The National Socialists prevented the premiere in 1933 and condemned the work as "un-German". However, Horváth's critical view of the devastating mechanisms of everyday life makes Glaube Liebe Hoffnung a timeless theatrical experience - a merciless reflection on the individual in an indifferent society. Accompanied by the Stadtgespräch series of post-show discussions with changing guests, this work invites the audience to confront social coldness and bureaucratic arbitrariness.

The City Talk

The theater work is combined with a series of discussions entitled Stadtgespräch. Together with various guests, from political decision-makers to social workers, existential counselors, debt advisors, police officers, scientists and other social urban actors, we want to address the broad topic of "What will the social question be in Bremerhaven in 2024? What answers can there be?". Together with the staging of a social drama, going out of the theater into the city, we would like to invite our audience and our discussion guests to think about this question.
