Global Bodies: Borda

Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues never fails to impress with the urgency of her works. They are immediately physical, speak the language of deep humanity and address fundamental issues of coexistence and the environment. In her new piece Borda, she creates an image of a shared future in which the borders are not so much borders as transitions.

Derived from the Portuguese "bordar" (to embroider), Borda stands for the tension between separation and connection. The word symbolizes visible borders as well as invisible thresholds that form identities and at the same time open up spaces for creative dialogue. In a figurative sense, "bordar" can also mean: to imagine, dream, fantasize. Imagination intensifies dreams, fables, mirages, creation - and gives us the opportunity to transcend boundaries.

With Global Bodies, fabrik Potsdam opens its doors to perspectives and forms of dance expression from all over the world. The guest performance series sets thematic and geographical focuses - always based on the body, movement and identity. Pulsating rhythms, political choreographies or poetic images show dance as a universal language that connects and deals with current issues. The invited artists bring their pieces, backgrounds and movement philosophies with them and invite an exchange of ideas.
