Glowing Attraction

In the organizer's words:

The photo artist Marta Djourina focuses on natural light phenomena and makes them visible to us. Djourina deliberately refrains from using a camera and instead examines the effects of a wide variety of light sources on photographic paper. In her abstract works, light itself becomes color.

With her analog practice, the artist sets a counterpoint to contemporary digital forms of work and returns to the origins of the photographic medium. For Djourina, light is not just a creative element, but becomes an object of investigation, a tool and the subject of the work itself. Marta Djourina's ability to make phenomena visible that can otherwise only be experienced in a laboratory or other special conditions is unique.

On display are works created under the influence of bioluminescent algae from the Glowing Attraction series (2019/20) and the glow of bioluminescent fungi from the Foxfire series (2021 - 2023). The exhibition is complemented by works from the projects Ashes of Ice (2023) and Fluid Contact (2023 -).
