„GOLDEN ROMANCE” Philippa Mo & Albert Lau

Philippa Mo (violin) and Albert Lau (piano) are giving their third concert tour with the new concert program "Golden Romance". In 2023 they performed in England and on the Isle of Man with their program "Devastation, Romance and Hope" and in 2024 they brought this program to Germany. Here they celebrated successful concerts in Cologne, in Marienmünster, in the Laeiszhalle Hamburg and in the Glocke Bremen. With "Golden Romance", Philippa Mo and Albert Lau present absolute musical highlights of the Romantic period from the end of the 19th century. The outstanding violin sonatas by Brahms and Franck will be complemented and their intensity emphasized by expressive works by Clara Schumann and Joseph Joachim. The audience can expect a rousing concert experience and great emotions.

Short biography Philippa Mo

Philippa Mo studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Philippa now performs extensively as a chamber musician. She has given concerts and live broadcasts worldwide, including her acclaimed debut at Wigmore Hall, recitals at the Henry Moore Institute Leeds, St John's Smith Square London, Deutsches Museum Munich, Natural History Museum Ulaanbataar, when she was the only British musician invited as soloist to the International Contemporary Music Festival in Mongolia in 2002. Philippa has also been invited to perform at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Glasgow, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Tate St Ives in the UK, as well as the Ankara International Music Festival and Lincoln Center in New York. An advocate of contemporary music, Philippa has given workshops on British music at the Central Conservatory in Beijing and at Bilkent and Hacettep Universities in Ankara, Turkey.

Philippa Mo has released critically acclaimed recordings for the NMC, Dutton and Nimbus labels. In 2015 she was appointed Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM). Philippa won the Future Classic Women Awards 2020, presented by the Women's Radio Station. Philippa is also a founding member of the violin duo "Retorica" which has performed worldwide to great acclaim.

Philippa plays a violin made by Julius Cesare Gigli in 1786.

Short biography of Albert Lau

Steinway Artist Albert Lau was born in Hong Kong and performs internationally as a solo pianist and chamber musician. He was appointed a Steinway Artist by Steinway & Sons in 2022. With Emile Naoumoff, at Indiana University in the USA, he received his Bachelor of Music with High Distinction. At the Royal Academy of Music in London, Albert Lau studied under Joanna MacGregor. He received his Master of Music degree with distinction for his outstanding achievements. Albert Lau has lived in Cologne since the end of 2016 and his concert activities have taken him to venues including the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Glocke Bremen, Beethoven-Haus Bonn, St. Martin-in-the-Fields London, the Royal Opera House London, the National Theatre of Namibia in Windhoek, as well as concerts in France, Italy, Norway, Israel, Hong Kong and Switzerland. Albert Lau has performed across genres with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the chamber ensemble Konsonanz Bremen, the actor Hans-Jürgen Schatz and musicians from the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, among others. He also uses his music to campaign against discrimination and anti-Semitism as well as for other social projects. He is also inspired by the connection between classical and contemporary music.
