Khartoum - a few years before the secession of South Sudan in 2011: Mona, a formerly well-known singer from North Sudan, lives with her husband Akram in affluent circumstances. One day, the two of them cause the death of a South Sudanese father. Plagued by feelings of guilt, Mona tries to get close to the unsuspecting widow. She hires Julia as a domestic help and lets her live with her son. An intimate friendship grows between the two women.

Director Mohamed Kordofani has created a sensitive drama about discrimination, friendship, guilt and atonement.

Mohamed Kordofani was born in Khartoum and now lives in Bahrain as a self-taught director, screenwriter and producer. His award-winning short film debut NYERKUK (2016) was followed by KEJER'S PRISON (2019) - a short film that was shown to thousands of demonstrators during the Sudanese revolution. His documentary A TOUR IN LOVE REPUBLIC (2020) was the first pro-revolution film to be broadcast on Sudanese television. GOODBYE JULIA was the first film from Sudan to be screened at the Cannes International Film Festival and won the Prix de la Liberté in the Un Certain Regard section.
