At the end of 2021, Dortmund City Council decided to erect a memorial to so-called guest workers. We are celebrating a three-day festival on Dortmund's Nordmarkt in order to continue the discussions in the spirit of the culture of remembrance. Because many aspects coincide with the important questions of Urbane Künste Ruhr: Who owns the public space? Who speaks and is heard, who is seen and who is overlooked? While the monument in the city centre fulfils the representative task of paying tribute to the achievements of the workers who came to the country, we are revitalizing
the Nordmarkt with a view to the coexistence of people with and without a history of immigration
today and tomorrow. We celebrate our common future!

Appreciating in Dortmund is a special stop on the Grand Snail Tour by Urbane Künste Ruhr in collaboration with the Monument to Immigrant Workers project, an initiative of the City of Dortmund. The Pentagon format is a cooperation project with the Dortmund cultural center Dietrich-Keuning-Haus.
