Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) are known worldwide for their compilation of fairy tales from the vernacular. The collection was published between 1812 and 1815 as Kinder und Hausmärchen. It is considered the first written collection of fairy tales in Germany, as storytelling had previously been a purely oral tradition.

The Grimm brothers' travels also brought them close to Würzburg. For example, Snow White, one of the most famous fairy tale characters in the collection, is now attributed to a young girl from Lohr am Main. Over the course of time, the diverse fairytale characters in the collection have developed into archetypes that are still referred to today in a wide variety of contexts.

Grimm's Travels examines what makes the fairy tale collection appealing to this day. The various scenes in the play quote the multifaceted stories and bring many of the well-known characters to life. In addition to the fairy tale about Snow White, Rapunzel and Cinderella, among others, are also covered.

Ballet director Dominique Dumais shares the evening with guest choreographer Wubkje Kuindersma. Both choreographers delve deep into the world of fairy tales and interweave Grimm's life and fairy tales with fantasy and playfulness as well as depth to create a moving journey of discovery.

The dance ensemble will be accompanied by the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra for Grimm's Journeys.
