"As We Go" - Jazz meets history

To mark the nationwide opening of Open Monument Day, the KuK in Gera will become a sound space of cultural remembrance: the Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO), conducted by award-winning saxophonist Theresia Philipp, will present the moving program "As We Go" - a musical bridge between East and West, between past and present. 35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the concert takes visitors on a journey through personal and collective memories. Theresia Philipp, a formative figure in German jazz, weaves biography and contemporary history into a sonorous plea for cultural diversity, openness and shared thinking.

As a cooperation between Deutschlandfunk and the German Foundation for Monument Protection, this Grundton D concert will be a special cultural event that brings monument protection to life not only in terms of architecture, but also in terms of sound. The Culture and Congress Center (KuK, formerly Haus der Kultur), built from 1977 to 1981 as an event and conference building, is a nationally significant monument of Eastern Modernism.

With the ticket proceeds, you support the preliminary examination of various materials on this monument and thus save a piece of Gera's cultural history!

The Grundton D charity concerts, which have been organized by Deutschlandfunk in cooperation with the German Foundation for Monument Protection since 1990, are particularly inspiring due to the combination of music and architecture. To mark the 40th anniversary of the German Foundation for Monument Protection, a total of three concerts will be held in special monuments for extraordinary purposes in 2025.
