Fateful coincidence

The Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra is one of the best young orchestras in the world. Those who play here have good prospects of a stellar career. The best example is violinist Renaud Capuçon: selected by the orchestra's founder Claudio Abbado in 1997, he took off as a chamber musician and soloist shortly afterwards. In the "Elbphilharmonie Sommer", he now returns to his old orchestra and meets up with another former member: Conductor Manfred Honeck, who has now been conducting the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for many years, also began his career with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra as Claudio Abbado's assistant.
