Wolfgang Borchert became a cult author with Outside the Door. Millions of people around the world saw his play, which denounces the cruelty of war like no other and calls on people to take responsibility for their actions. Borchert was a moralist and a warner, but he was also a passionate, fun-loving young man who loved jazz, women, romantic poetry and the stage.

"He was eighteen when the war broke out, twenty-four when it ended. War and imprisonment had destroyed his health, and the famine of the post-war years did the rest. He had two years left to write, and in those two years he wrote like someone in a race against death. Borchert had no time, and he knew it." Heinrich Böll

Wolfgang Borchert, who was born in Hamburg, would have been one hundred years old on May 20, 1921. Reason enough for Stefan Gwildis to give the admired poet a special birthday present: With newly set poems, a selection of his favorite stories, letters, scenes from his youthful dramas and previously unpublished documents, he presents his very personal "Best of Borchert" program.

In addition to their great enthusiasm for music and poetic texts, both artists also share a great love for Hamburg: "Hamburg, that's more than a pile of stones", writes Borchert; with "Mond über Hamburg" Stefan Gwildis sings about his favorite city.
