Habitat / Herrenhausen • Doris Uhlich

In the organizer's words:

A spectacular piece for the 350th anniversary of the Great Garden: Austrian choreographer Doris Uhlich creates a Herrenhausen version of her internationally acclaimed piece Habitat. It is a celebration for all bodies, all ages, all genders.

Habitat is a utopian, shameless, but also shame-free hymn to the naked body beyond the usual ideals of beauty. People let their fat dance and celebrate diversity and individual beauty. The naked bodies snap, vibrate and clap against each other to electronic sounds and abstract techno tracks. They are not turned into a fetish or an object, but are shown with all their mass and force, but also in their fragility.

The Habitat ensembles, which are always put together locally, are appropriated from the most diverse locations, from the harbor area in Copenhagen to the shopping center in Bristol. Now it's off to the Herrenhausen Gardens: the audience wanders with the large ensemble of performers through the spectacular baroque architecture to which the choreography repeatedly refers. Baroque meets the present and today's visions and desires. Habitat is a great happening for the Great Garden.
