Annika Büsing reads from her new novel "Wir kommen zurecht".

Philipp has learned to pull himself together, keep his mouth shut and not get on anyone's nerves. He is almost 18 and about to graduate from high school. His father, a successful surgeon, has a new girlfriend and is "doing the world", while his mother only appears hazily in his thoughts from time to time. Philipp finds support from his friend Lorenz, with whom he shares almost everything. When the police call looking for Philipp's mother once again, he has to decide whether he wants to remain invisible or finally stand up for himself.

Mara Cassens Award winner Annika Büsing has written a tender, closely observed book about a family that almost breaks apart due to the mother's mental illness. She gets very close to the thoughts, feelings and lives of her characters. As if through a magnifying glass, "Wir kommen zurecht" (Steidl) looks at what family can be. The family you are born into and the one you choose.
