Hannes Heer: Fluchtpunkt London

This two-part series examines the history of the ten governments-in-exile during the Second World War. Residing in London from 1940 as legal representatives of their countries occupied by Nazi Germany, they were initially living proof that Hitler's "New Europe" lacked any legitimacy. Then they became the bridge pillars for the resistance movements in their countries. For some of the liberated peoples - Poles, Greeks and Czechoslovaks - the final victory was a catastrophe: they became victims of the "realpolitik" of the great powers. "Vanishing Point London" is an example of European resistance, the unpredictability of history and the demise of the old Central Europe. The film was made in conversation with prominent representatives of the governments in exile and top officials of the British government.
