Hannes Hirth Trio

Sometimes light-footed, sometimes harmonically twisted and knotty, this is how the jazz of pianist Hannes Hirth comes across. You can often hear his role models shining through in Hirth's compositions: There is the stubbornness of Thelonious Monk, the vehemence of McCoy Tyner. Sometimes you hear the lyrical moments of Mal Waldron, sometimes Cecil Taylor's boundless improvisation.
What emerges is more than just an amalgam: Hirth, a product of the Würzburg University of Music, has found his own contemporary sound language. Bene Schuba, much sought-after jazz drummer and performance artist from Kassel, and Oliver Hermann on double bass, also with roots at the Würzburg University of Music, make Hirth a trio with wit and joy in interplay.
