"ORWO was the largest women's company in the GDR with over 50 percent female employees [...] and is still often cited today as proof of the equality of East German women. With its performance 'Tyrannosaurus Regina', the artists' collective hannsjana scratches this myth in a rather funny way by crossing the theme of Eastern feminism with the seemingly disparate fascination with dinosaurs, which predominantly affects men." Eva Berendt, Theater heute, August/September 2024
"ORWO was the GDR's largest female business with a workforce that was over 50% female [...] and is still cited enthusiastically today as proof of women's equality in the East. In their performance 'Tyrannosaurus Regina', the artistic collective hannsjana scratch away at this myth in very humorous fashion by mixing the theme of East German feminism with the apparently disparate - and primarily male - fascination with dinosaurs." Eva Berendt, Theater heute, August/September 2024
At first glance, the women's movement in the GDR and the dinosaurs have absolutely nothing to do with each other - except that they no longer exist, but their former existence can still be felt today. The artists of the hannsjana group, however, bring these two themes together in a playful and clever way. Equipped with headphones, the audience embarks on an excavation tour with performative interventions, on which questions about East and West German narratives of feminism and patriarchal narratives come to light as historical traces are uncovered layer by layer.
