Hayden Pedigo (Mexican Summer/US) *live*
The exceptional guitarist Hayden Pedigo, master of sophisticated fingerpicking, is coming to the Gretchen with his new album "I'll Be Waving As You Drive Away".
What particularly distinguishes Hayden Pedigo is his ability not to lose himself in the esoteric depths of a solo guitar album, but to integrate a variety of influences, all of which he allows to resonate rather casually, without allowing them to freeze into monuments on high pedestals. Instead, he brings them down and works at eye level with their heritage. With his sixth album "The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored" (2023), he created what was probably the best instrumental acoustic guitar album of the last two to three decades at the time.
For "I'll Be Waving As You Drive Away", Hayden promises to throw all modern acoustic guitar records into the fire, turn his practice on its head, expand his sphere of influence and reinterpret it. Pedigo's trademark top-notch guitar compositions have become even more complex, with echoes of King Crimson's prog-rock mellotrons and the heavy phasers and bass of Led Zeppelin, held together by the psychedelic sensibilities of producer Scott Hirsch. As a foretaste, the single "Long Pond Lily" is already available, which radiates a whole new energy and offers a powerful yet delicate maximalism.
