Hayden Thorpe rose to fame as the lead singer and chief songwriter of the acclaimed English art-pop band Wild Beasts . Since then, he has released three solo albums on the British label Domino Records: Diviner, a critically acclaimed album about loneliness and fragility. The second album Moondust For My Diamond, a work full of electrifying, elegantly seductive and cosmic energy. And now, with his Ness, released in September 2024, an album in collaboration with bestselling author Robert Macfarlane to accompany his graphic novel of the same name, complete with artful illustrations by Stanley Donwood. Ness is a vibrantly dark and beautiful ode both to the moving language of the original book and to the real place it describes, Orford Ness in Suffolk. During both world wars and the decades of the Cold War, the peninsula was a secret weapons development site for the British Ministry of Defense until it was turned into a nature reserve by the National Trust in 1993 and left to run wild.
