"The cheers in the tent forced so many encores that Kornéev ran out of Weill pieces and resorted to his mother's favorite song: 'Moscow Nights'." This is how the Berliner Zeitung reported on Vladimir Kornéev's Weill program. To mark the composer's 125th birthday, the chansonnier and well-known actor, blessed with a seductive baritone, is now bringing his spirited Weill interpretations to Heidelberg. The evening is called "Youkali" after the song about the utopian island of longing where all wishes come true. Weill's fate as an emigrant is also a personal concern for Kornéev, who fled to Germany from Georgia with his family at the age of six.
