In László Krasznahorkai's novel, life in Kana (a mirror image of Kahla in Thuringia) is described from multiple perspectives and relentlessly against the backdrop of an increasing sense of threat: Graffiti appears on Bach monuments, packs of wolves roam the Thuringian Forest, a Jewish physics teacher suddenly disappears.
The book's protagonist, Florian Herscht, struggles to hold the last threads of social life together. In his mind, the small events of everyday life intermingle with metaphysical questions about the end of the world. But when the town's neo-Nazi group becomes increasingly radicalized, Herscht's world also begins to totter.

"Herscht 07769" is part of the theater exchange between Theaterhaus Jena and Örkény Színház Budapest, whose production "Sokszor nem halunk meg" premieres on 06.03.
