Hi! Spencer • "Oben Tour 2025" • Live in Leipzig 🌤️

In the organizer's words:

Hi Spencer, suddenly as light as a cloud? The cover and title of the new album suggest so. But don't worry! "We still make terribly melancholy songs," says the band, who traditionally can't be pigeonholed, but are somewhere between indie, pop, rock and punk. And yet there is a twist in "oben" that is new for the Osnabrück band: the songs don't stop where they start in terms of content, they don't dig deeper and deeper into the emotions - instead they show solutions and perspectives. And so "oben" follows on seamlessly from the last album "memori", because as they said so beautifully there: "But you can do that if you start to change your perspective." Taking a different view, accepting a situation as it is - that is a key theme in the new Hi! Spencer songs.

Front singer Sven Bensmann expresses the interplay between being on top, staying on top and falling off every now and then with his usual vocal power. And the knowledge that there is no such thing as a good time, there is only an acceptance of the fact that at some point you will find a way of dealing with your issues. And that keeps you on top. It's not the circumstances that change - but the way you look at them: "It hurts differently because I now understand ..." ("Missing"). Up" is also about preserving the good and the certainty that you can and will drift away from time to time. And, in songs like "Nebel" or "Juno", that others can also get you out of a low - and that it is therefore always worth celebrating the good!

"Würfel", the first single from the new record, is about monotonous days, full of tiredness and dissatisfaction with yourself. The central image in the song is the throw of the dice - and the associated complete surrender of one's own fate to chance. The luck of the dice is supposed to decide whether today will be a good or a bad day. The fact that the song is so fitting for the first single from "oben" is shown by the relief at the end of the song: "No matter whether the luck of the dice is bad or the other way around, I'll throw the dice away and go, because maybe you'll save me" - shows the decision to ask for help again in a self-determined way in order to be able to stay on top.

Fittingly, the artwork of the record shows a photo of the five of them together for the first time. The central element on the cover as well as on the merch and co. is the cloud - because hardly anything is further "up". Clouds are light. They float. They are light, often transparent. And yet they can obscure our view and hang heavy with rain in the sky. They disappear, form anew. Drift away. Dissolve. They can be anything.

They can be anything - even the band Hi! Spencer. And while some of their songs are floating in the clouds, the five of them have kept their feet firmly on the ground.

"oben" was released in 2024 on the Uncle M label. And for all those who want to hear the record live, zuendstoff Booking is now sending Hi! Spencer on the third tour for the album.

The album was recorded with house and yard producer Tobi Schneider at DocMaKlang Studio Osnabrück. Matthias Lohmöller was hired for the mastering. The graphic concept and artwork were created by the Osnabrück-based creative team kraem.

Hi! Spencer was founded in 2012 and followed up with studio albums and a new EP 2022 in 2019. In recent years, the band has played their way up from youth center stages and village festivals to sold-out club tours and slots on Germany's biggest festival stages such as Deichbrand, Highfield and Open Flair.

In 2022, the band celebrated their tenth anniversary with an anniversary concert in front of 1,600 people in Osnabrück, played sold-out club tours throughout Germany the following year and all tickets for their two end-of-year concerts in 2023 at Rosenhof Osnabrück were sold out months in advance. Thanks to the support of their label Uncle M, many of their songs have long since cracked the million mark on Spotify. And the band is also finding itself on the radio more and more often.
