EVENT

Workshop series on human rights of LGBTQIA+ people and the influence of religions and colonialism

In this cooperation between QueerHistoryMonth Hamburg and the PHŒNiX festival 2025 Colonial Interferences, we will address queer hostility in African countries and contemporary German society. Today's criminalization of queer lifestyles is a legacy of colonialism.

On this evening, we will present the results of the previous workshop weekend. With insights into the current human rights situation of LGBTQIA+ people in African countries and the world, contributions on the historical responsibility through the influence of religions and colonialism as well as artistic approaches to the topic.

This workshop is made possible by a cooperation with the parish of St. Ansgar.

To get you in the mood for this workshop series, we cordially invite you to a free city tour for young people under 25 - in cooperation with JuLe and the mhc. Together, we will explore Hamburg's queer history and discover exciting stories and developments in your own community before turning our attention to the history of other communities as part of the workshop series.
