The deep estrangement of a married couple and the difficult search for lost feelings as well as a questioning of mother roles form a complex mixture in HONO TO ONNA. Shingo and Ritsuko have had their child through artificial insemination. She feels attracted to the initially unknown sperm donor; a complicated web of relationships develops with him and his wife. Unusual shots, image compositions, camera angles and movements prevent any easy identification and allow the director to emerge as a conscious designer.
