There is no picture that he painted, no cartoon that he scribbled, no book that he wrote in which he did not process what he had experienced since he looked up at the sky from his room in Garstedt in northern Germany as a small boy. Herrndorf's childhood view of the world accompanied him throughout his life and left an unmistakable mark on his work.
