Many civil society organizations are guided by strong ideals. They give strength, inspire and enable transformative action - especially under difficult conditions. At the same time, the pressure to live up to these ideals can lead to excessive demands, conflicts and exclusion. Those who fail to meet expectations come under pressure to justify themselves. So how can ideals provide powerful orientation without creating control and constriction?
The focus is on reflecting on the dynamics surrounding ideals: how do they work in our organizations? This is complemented by an examination of our own experiences with idealism - what inspires us, what burdens us? How can we deal constructively with these dynamics? And how can we harness the transformative power of ideals on the one hand and create responsible structures together that respect our boundaries so that we can be sustainably active on the other?
Together, we will explore how we can use ideals as a guide without falling into toxic dynamics. Using concrete examples from practice, we will develop ways to combine responsibility and creative power with mindfulness.
