As war reporters, Martha Gellhorn, Margret Bourke-White and Lee Miller were the first women to report on the Second World War directly from the front - with great courage, a thirst for adventure and intellectual acuity. In "Three Women - One War", they themselves have their say and recount their impressions of a completely destroyed Europe in groundbreaking reports. A moving film that shows the horror of war from the perspective of women - edited exclusively from their texts, photographs and Allied film footage.

Director Luzia Schmid and editor Yana Höhnerbach were awarded two Grimme Prizes for the documentary "Three Women - One War", which was funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. "[...] Schmid embeds both the texts and the photos in footage shot by American cameramen, who always make it clear exactly what is being talked about. [...] Through the confrontation with suffering, death and destruction, the women change their attitude towards the events, and Yana Höhnerbach emphasizes this through her careful editing," was the jury's verdict. Yana Höhnerbach also received the German Camera Award in the "Editing / Documentary Screen" category.

Holger Buff was responsible for the sound design and Jascha Viehl was involved as sound mixer. Yana Höhnerbach (editing, including "Memory Wars", "Searching Eva"), Holger Buff (sound design, including "White Souvenirs", "Mamita") and Jascha Viehl (sound mixer, including "Buba") graduated together in 2014 from the BA Film Editing & Sound program at the ifs International Film School Cologne. All three live in Cologne and frequently work together on film projects, most recently on "Ich will alles. Hildegard Knef" (director: Luzia Schmid).

On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the ifs will be presenting graduates with a selected film in its series ifs Encounter: 25 Years ifs over the course of the year. In addition to the film, the subsequent discussion will also focus on the filmmakers' professional careers after their time at the ifs.
