Ballet by Andonis Foniadakis

With Icarus , Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis, who was already enthusiastically received in Hanover in 2019 and 2023, presents his first world premiere at the State Opera. Icarus, the legendary figure from ancient Greece, symbolizes the human urge to overcome boundaries and play with one's own destiny. Icarus' daring flight too close to the sun and his tragic fall into the sea - Foniadakis picks up on the essence of the story and combines his unmistakable movement language with elements of the traditional dances of his native Crete. Driven by the question of how far one can go without failing, he creates a gripping choreography that seems to dissolve the boundaries of space and time for a moment.
