IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA
Comic opera by Gioachino Rossini
Text by Cesare Sterbini after Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais
In Italian with German surtitles
Chaos in Seville! The smart Count Almaviva has his eye on the beautiful Rosina. The only problem is that her money-hungry guardian Dr. Bartolo wants to marry her himself. So Almaviva slips into all kinds of disguises - sometimes as a drunken soldier, sometimes as a quirky music teacher - to secretly court Rosina. He is supported by the shrewd Figaro, who stirs up the game with tricks, intrigues and stolen keys. Bartolo smells a rat, but too late: Almaviva and Rosina marry under the notary's nose and Bartolo is left in the lurch - but is comforted with gold. Pure Rossini: music, turbulence and a happy ending included!
Rossini composed "Il barbiere di Siviglia" at the age of 23 in just three weeks - a lively masterpiece of opera buffa, based on Beaumarchais' comedy from 1772.
