Im Bann der Leidenschaft: Cho − Göteborgs Symfoniker − Rouvali

After Seong-Jin Cho delighted Festival audiences last season with his piano recital at the Palais im Großen Garten, the exceptional South Korean pianist returns to Dresden this time with an orchestra and one of the masterpieces of piano literature: Chopin's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in E minor. Inspired by his first love, Konstancja Gładkowska, Chopin used the full range of tonal possibilities of his instrument in this work, opening up completely new emotional and musical dimensions for himself and the performers who followed him. The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1905 and officially recognized as the Swedish National Orchestra since 1997, provides a rich orchestral sound. The audience can look forward to another reunion: Santtu-Matias Rouvali from Finland, who was celebrated in Dresden in 2024 and is now the orchestra's chief conductor, will be conducting. Under his direction, Tchaikovsky's last major work, the "Pathétique", will be performed, about which the composer himself said: "I put my whole soul into this symphony without exaggeration."
