IMAGINE! 2025 | Lavinia Knop-Walling: Nachtblind - Monster im Dunkeln

In the organizer's words:

As part of IMAGINE! 2nd International Festival for Narrative Art in Chemnitz, Dresden & Leipzig

It is often not the darkness that frightens us the most, but its children - worry, deception, death and the gender of nightmares. Amidst the deep, opaque cloak of night, there are stories of those who face the children of the night. A girl standing in the street at night, surrounded by darkness, dares neither move forward nor backward because she sees for the first time that she is blind. In search of light, the girl falls into the darkness, fights her way through the house of night and searches the empty night sky for hours for the twinkling of the stars. Traditional stories about the formation of the moon, the search for stars and the fight against nightmares are mixed with autobiographical tales about night blindness, monsters under the bed and lights in front of the inner eye.

Lavinia Knop-Walling is a blind storyteller, workshop leader, blogger, author, mother and cat roommate from Berlin. Her hobbies are audio description in theater and telling traditional and autobiographical stories. She likes to describe herself as a person who dances at many weddings at the same time. Since completing her Master's degree in European Media Studies, she has written texts, blogged, tweeted, edited, moderated, lectured and told a lot of stories.
In the field of audio description, she runs workshops, writes articles, moderates events and accompanies performance groups in the development of inclusive plays. As a storyteller, she tells traditional and autobiographical stories for adults and children, often focusing on the themes of blindness, darkness and inclusion. Her aim is to develop traditional and autobiographical stories that challenge ableist structures.
