Founded in Paris in 2012 and named after its primarius, the Quatuor Van Kuijk has long since established itself in the top international group of string quartets. The four French musicians can prove this with the 2nd Rasumowsky Quartet, titled after its patron, as the standard of musical precision is hardly higher anywhere than in Beethoven's string quartets. But the real highlight is the French part of the program. The quartet chose works by Poulenc, Fauré and Ravel, which were originally composed for piano or voice, and rearranged them for their four instruments. And to bring them back to the present day, they have commissioned a new work from French jazz pianist and composer Baptiste Trotignon. In "Ces Messieurs", premiered in New York's Carnegie Hall in 2024, Trotignon reflects on the work of the tone poets from the fin de siècle and the first half of the 20th century. These Parisian impressions oscillate between exuberant joie de vivre and melancholy lost in the world - a charming tribute to the musical city of Paris!
