In the organizer's words:

"Puzzle movie: beacon of hope or intriguer?"

At first, we couldn't agree on the ending of this incredibly exciting film - a jewel of American independent cinema with a star-studded cast. Is the main character of this brilliantly acted thriller, a young man of color, a perfidious villain or a bearer of hope who is wrongly accused? Why does his teacher have it in for him, is his girlfriend his co-conspirator or his victim, what role do his adoptive parents play? We won't give away the title because we want you to go into this movie just as impartially as we did. It is full of ambivalence and poses many questions, especially this one: To what extent do our own experiences and expectations determine what we see (or want to see)?

We will explore this together with you in the follow-up discussion. We are sure to find new perspectives. And we also want to talk about what films you would like to see in the future, what you think is missing, what we can do better.
