Joy is a Shared Table | Food Performance | Biennale für Freiburg 3

The food performance "Joy is a Shared Table" by the artist Agnes Essonti Luque will take place as part of the closing ceremony of the Biennale für Freiburg 3.

The performance is inspired by "La Bissaperie", a project by Agnes Essonti Luque from 2022, which encourages the creation of a tastier, more sensual future - interwoven with personal memories and collective experiences. The focus is on the preparation and sharing of bissap, a refreshing drink made from hibiscus flowers. A large tablecloth serves as a common textile that becomes a living carrier of gestures, voices and encounters through dyeing, embroidery and natural pigments. Working with the hands creates a space for presence, care and connection.
Participants are invited to bring ingredients that have a personal meaning and symbolize joy. These elements will be used to create a collective altar that honors everyday rituals and makes individual connections visible.

Biennale for Freiburg 3 - HAPPY PLACE

This year's Biennale für Freiburg explores the question of how tourism shapes places into projection surfaces for longings and fantasies of escapism, thereby obscuring existing power relations and post-colonial dependencies. The Biennale für Freiburg 3 brings together artists who deal with the colonial continuities and political dimensions of travel. They question romanticized notions of "the South" and create alternative narratives.
