Irreversible Entanglements

In the organizer's words:

When, after three albums on International Anthem, Irreversible Entanglements released their debut "Protect Your Light" on the Impulse! label in 2023, some critics heard a greater accessibility: the free radicals in the tradition of fire music, the political activists, the smashers were suddenly supposed to speak something gentle and pleasing. This fails to recognize two things: firstly, the beauty that can already be discovered in the highly charged early pieces that hark back to the free jazz heritage; and secondly, the urgency and consistency that IR continues to show in every surging horn section, in every over-excited melody line, in every impetuous rhythm. Not least in Moor Mothers' urgent and oppressive spoken word lyricism, which evokes Amiri Baraka and Archie Shepp and carries something strikingly disarming within it. The music emerges from a gesture of spontaneity, but it has the potential to mean something profound beyond the moment.
