In the middle of the volcanic desert landscape of Fuerteventura, Tom works as a tennis coach in an aging hotel resort. What began as a dream of an endless summer soon turns out to be a monotonous routine. The sun shines relentlessly and day after day the former pro plays countless balls over the net of his faded tennis court. While the tourists come and go in a never-ending stream, Tom fills the growing void in his life with alcohol and fleeting affairs. But then the mysterious Anne steps off the coach and awakens a barely tangible memory in him. Anne, her husband Dave and their eight-year-old son Anton do not fit the image of the usual package tourists. Tom quickly becomes close to the family: he gives Anton tennis lessons and shows them the rugged beauty of the island far away from the tourist trade. However, the couple's tensions are hard to ignore. After an argument with Anne, Dave disappears without a trace the next morning. From now on, Tom accompanies Anne on her search for her husband, but Anne's behavior is just as mysterious as Dave's disappearance. Tom harbors a suspicion that gives him hope of escaping the insignificance of his life after all.
