Jembaa Groove have come a long way. After receiving massive support from the international media world (KEXP, BBC 6, Gilles Peterson, Soulection, WDR, FIP etc.) with their debut album "Susuma" in 2022, Jembaa Groove are now coming out with their second studio album "Ye Ankasa/We ourselves".

Led by vocalist and percussion legend Eric Owusu and bassist and producer Yannick Nolting, the Berlin-based band has established itself as an internationally touring band over the last two years, recording a BBC6 session at Maida Vale Studios and playing some of the best stages in the world, such as SXSW, Supersonic Jazz and ESNS. Steeped in fundamental elements of 70's Ghanaian highlife, the band has their own interpretation of a range of influences that goes far beyond simply trying to imitate the greats before them. The band is made up of former band members of Tony Allen, Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas and Orlando Julius. Decades of playing and recording with these legends of Highlife and Afrobeat has certainly shaped their perception of sound. With their rousing and energetic live performances, they have made a name for themselves throughout Europe and beyond. As they sweep audiences away with a mix of tight arrangements and spontaneous improvisation, you'd better be there when Jembaa Groove kicks off and lets you soar through a variety of dreamy horn lines, sweeping guitars and heavenly vocals. A blend of members of African and European descent hailing from different corners of the planet, Jembaa Groove mix a melting pot of influences that fuse into what they describe as a contemporary interpretation of highlife, jazz and soul. The band represents their very own and new sound, which they believe is constantly evolving, as a progressive life means keeping your eyes and ears open to everything that is happening around you at all times. "Ye Ankasa/We himself" is a call to action and authenticity. Don't wait for others to do it, we can do it ourselves. And don't try to be someone you are not. Find yourself, be yourself.
