At sex-positive parties, events in the cultural milieu, on the ICE and in anti-German scene bars in Neukölln, a nameless first-person narrator encounters the past, present and future of the German left. He is increasingly overwhelmed by what he experiences. Everywhere he goes he meets former friends, roommates and acquaintances. Over the years, more and more topics have accumulated that they can no longer talk to each other about - such as Israel, their gender or Islam. There is Michel, for example, who is writing a doctoral thesis on slavery or genocide in the USA, "because people in Germany are so behind the times when it comes to discourse". Or Patrick, who is walking in the "footsteps of Prussia" in Brandenburg "to see how deeply anchored the discipline is in us". With apparent naivety and wicked wit, Jens Winter draws a topography of the German left in a state of advanced decay.
