In the third concert of their journey through Shostakovich's quartet music in Bonn and Cologne, the Jerusalem Quartet presents three contrasting works. Raw and primal energies erupt in the folk-like melodies of the second quartet. The seventh quartet begins somewhat more teasingly. In contrast, the ninth is brimming with self-confidence - perhaps a self-portrait of the composer?
