JESSE MCBRIDE (USA) FEAT. HENRI JERRATSCH TRIO (D)

Jesse McBride is an exciting and adventurous pianist and bandleader. A professor at Tulane University, he brings the musical legacies of jazz legends Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste to his own thoughtful and forward-thinking piano style and is passionate about educating the next generation of jazz musicians. McBride was born in Houston; his mother was a bandleader, his aunt a violinist and conductor. He began playing the violin at the age of four and won numerous competitions. During his time at Houston High School for Performing Arts, he discovered the piano for himself. In the 1990s, he moved to New Orleans to study at the University of New Orleans (UNO), where he earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in music.

At UNO, McBride studied jazz piano with Ellis Marsalis and developed a close relationship with legendary producer, musician and educator Harold Battiste. "Mr. att" encouraged him to develop his own personal sound and continue the tradition of mentoring young musicians along the way. McBride took over Battiste's "Next Generation" project and has continued his legacy since the jazz veteran's death in 2015. With Next Generation, McBride performs regularly in New Orleans, including at WWOZ's Piano Night and as headliner of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He is a lecturer in Black American Music Studies at Tulane University and gives master classes throughout New Orleans.

Henri Jerratsch is an up-and-coming drummer, sideman and bandleader from Northern Germany. Working with numerous rhythm and blues, soul and jazz artists throughout Europe, his jazz studies at the University of Osnabrück led him to the University of New Orleans in 2022. Inspired by the roots of Black American music, Jerratsch felt the need to understand more deeply the essence, pulse and reality of this music beyond the European scene. Experiencing musicians such as Herlin Riley, Jason Marsalis, Shannon Powell, Johnny Vidacovich, Raymond Webber and Kerry "Fats" Hunter live night after night gave him a completely new perspective on the music he had previously learned about mainly through recordings and video material. Jerratsch and McBride crossed paths during his time in the UNO jazz program. For the second time, the Henri Jerratsch Trio is delighted to welcome Jesse McBride as a guest pianist.
