Jewish Christmas – Singing and swinging the American Dream

The Christmas soundtrack to the "American Dream" musically staged in Leipzig's Horns Erben - that historic, trendy venue where you can still hear the swing in the air - by a klezmer violinist and a jazz pianist.

Inspired by this unique chapter in cultural history, Samuel Seifert (violin) and Robert Herrmann (piano) have embarked on their own personal musical quest with the aim of weaving these Christmas classics into a special concert program in which they tell the stories of the American dream in song. They present these extraordinary songs as a Christmas cocktail of fine swing arrangements and fascinating stories.

There is a whole wealth of magical American Christmas songs that have become an indispensable part of our Christmas rituals today. Our very own Santa Claus is a cultural import from the 'land of opportunity', as is 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer', the likeable underdog who pulls the sleigh for Santa Claus through the snow-covered 'winter wonderland' and - despite climate change - keeps the longing for a 'white Christmas' alive in us. All these iconic Christmas motifs have come down to us as swinging earworms with the voices of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby. Today, it is hard to imagine Christmas without these melodies.
