The Golden Thread Ensemble

The Golden Thread Ensemble is a septet of top-class musicians from Europe and North America led by Grammy award-winning New York singer Lorin Sklamberg (The Klezmatics) and the celebrated Latvian Yiddish singer Sasha Lurje.
With arrangements by violinist Craig Judelman, the Golden Thread Ensemble presents the program "Yiddish Songs of Change and Resilience" - a compelling narrative about the role of music in the struggle for justice and equality.
From intimate folk ballads to stirring theatrical melodies and hymns, traditional and contemporary, the collection of songs traces the complex relationship between community, identity and social change.
For both die-hard klezmer aficionados and newcomers to Yiddish music, the Golden Thread Ensemble promises an unforgettable experience that connects past and present, tradition and innovation, as well as generations and cultures.

Artists

From the heart of Riga to the cultural diversity of Berlin, Sasha Lurje is considered one of the leading Yiddish singers in the world. She dives deep into traditional Yiddish styles, breathing life into the old melodies while leading contemporary projects. Over the rocking beats of "Forshpil", with haunting melodies of the Semer Ensemble or in projects like "Black Rooster Sings" and "Goyfriend", Sasha's voice and passion are unmistakable.

In collaboration with her colleagues, the Fortunoff Archive at Yale University, but also in projects such as "Songs from Testimonies", the "Helsinki Yiddish Cabaret" and theater performances with Michael Wex' "Last Night in Cabaret Yitesh" and Josh Waletzky's "Pleytem Tsuzamen", Sasha Lurje creates unforgettable and resonant experiences. She is an active member of the Berlin klezmer community and a regular guest at festivals such as Yiddish Summer Weimar, Shtetl Berlin and the Seattle Yiddish Festival.

Tickets are available in three categories:

Premium: 30 euros (seating in the first rows in front of the stage)

Normal price: 20 euros (free choice of seats behind the premium category)

Reduced: 10 euros (free choice of seats behind the premium category, for pupils, students or people with a disabled pass or Hannover AktivPass)
