"JISR - Live in Kolkata" is a powerful tribute to oud player and guitarist Roman Bunka (1951-2022), who spent a lifetime dedicated to music and intercultural understanding. Forty years ago, he traveled to Kolkata with the legendary group Embryo and crossed the impressive Howrah Bridge, which decades later formed the backdrop for an unforgettable JISR concert on March 24, 2022. JISR invites the audience on an acoustic journey reminiscent of a moonlit caravan, leading from the Isar River in Germany to the Ganges in India. This symbolic journey stands not only for geographical distances, but also for the migration of ideas and feelings that find expression in music.

At the heart of the vibrant sounds of a city that, despite its challenges, radiates an unmistakable hospitality, this album unites different musical traditions into a harmonious whole. The music transcends genre boundaries, blending influences such as the meditative playing of the Hindustani violin, the pulsating rhythms of Gnawa, the experimental spirit of Krautrock and the deeply melancholic melodies of Arabic Maqam. This album celebrates the diversity and richness of world music and honors the legacy of Roman Bunka in all its depth.

The performance at Ganges, one of Roman Bunka's last concerts, evokes precious memories of his life and his peaceful message of togetherness through music. "JISR - Live in Kolkata" is not only a musical memorial to Roman Bunka, but a powerful manifesto for the universal language of music - an invitation to look beyond one's own cultural boundaries and embrace the captivating sounds of the world.
