HITS IN THE DARK (Misitunes / Hanseplatte)
Joachim Franz Büchner, guitarist and songwriter of the Hamburg band Der Bürgermeister der Nacht and author, realizes the idea of his own LP, which was recorded with an indie supergroup consisting of Philipp Wulf (Messer, Station 17), Pola Lia Schulten (Jens Friebe, Zucker) and Christian Heerdt (Botschaft, Scharping). In timeless and catchy songs with sound collages and stylistic excursions to krautrock, reggae, bossanova or androgynous crooner chansons, the artist finds his own precise language. He contrasts social coldness with warm melodies, negotiates harsh reality with surrealism and humor or sings about the tension between depression and personal emancipation. In this way, the multi-instrumentalist wants to prove that smart pop music can also inspire in this country.
"Erobique" Carsten Meyer:
"Listened through the whole record in one go now, just couldn't stop. It's a really big hit, so opulent but still so entertaining. Great, really fine pop music that carries its influences on its heart, but never ends up in reference hell.
Detailed and catchy, great strings (the lullaby is wonderful), Pola goes so well with Joachim's vocals, great lyrics that will immediately remain in my vocabulary as quotes. Great arrangements and playing, the dance tracks are funky and I love the trumpet!"
"Joachim Franz Büchner (Ostzonensuppenwürfelmachenkrebs, Der Bürgermeister der Nacht) opens up post-Hamburger-Schule guitar music to the feeling - without a double bottom or irony. This circumstance unfolds an unbelievable euphoria and truthfulness, especially when listened to several times."
Linus Volkmann, Musikexpress, Feature "(Secret) Hits of the first half of 2024"
"The all-rounder of the Hamburg school"
Sabine Gietzelt on Bayrischer Rundfunk, Pop&Rewind from 15.12.2023
"Discourse pop with feeling. A very successful play with language and music"
Dirk Schneider on Deutschlandfunk, Tonart
"Büchner's lyrics are both unaffectedly direct and playfully open. And they have humor. His band plays an indie pop that stretches the boundaries of the dull genre."
Alexander Kasbohm, konkret 9/21
"The debut album "Ich bin nicht Joachim Franz Büchner" shows an up-and-coming artist with heart-warming guitar pop."
Jan Paersch, TAZ
"Genres such as krautrock, reggae and bossa nova combined in a charming way. With extraordinary eloquence, the Joachim Franz Büchner Band transports the listener sometimes into an anesthesia dream, sometimes into the discount store."
