The Berlin musician, songwriter and actress Joanna Gemma Auguri incorporates influences from folk, ambient and avant-garde music in her solo and band projects. As a five-year-old, she fled Poland, which was under martial law, with her parents and had to learn early on what it means to be uprooted. This experience is reflected in her music as an expression of personal sadness, compassion, but also despair about the state of the world. In 2021, she released her solo debut ""11" on her own label Lavender Music. It was mainly characterized by accordion, zither and her vocals. Her new album "Hiraeth" (a Welsh word for longing) was recorded at Candy Bomber Studios in Berlin with a large number of musicians. In addition to choir, double bass, lap steel guitar, drums, cello, wind instruments, various organs and keyboards, her original instruments accordion and zither shine through again and again. Joanna's voice sits unmistakably above the majestic, almost monumental compositions, which always remain simple and delicate despite their richness.
