Johannismarkt

The St. John's market in Neuss is the third of six markets held in the district town on the Lower Rhine. The market, Freithof and Münsterplatz are traditionally transformed into a huge market on St. John's Day, the day of the birth of John the Baptist. Between pots, lace, blankets, woolen socks and fish sandwiches, traders and visitors get into conversation and pick up a bargain or two. The history of the Johannismarkt in Neuss dates back to the 14th century, when the market is documented. The Johannismarkt usually takes place on June 24 (if this day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, then on the following Monday).
