The Dutch post-hardcore band John Coffey, named after the prisoner in Stephen King's "The Green Mile", are back in November: they are coming to Germany for three dates with their energetic, crowd-pleasing shows. The new EP "Punch the Clock, Smile and Wave", with which John Coffey break out of familiar patterns, was released at the end of last year. The cover shows a tired clown with a cigarette between his fingers and a half-empty beer next to him: burnt-out dreams and honest self-reflection mark this chapter of their work. This is also reflected in the songs on the EP. Fast-paced tracks lead to intimate, thoughtful moments. John Coffey dive deeper into questions and test the boundaries of their sound further.
Since their formation in 2002, the Dutch band have been touring across Europe. This has included gigs with bands such as Cancer Bats and Architects, steadily increasing their popularity with hardcore fans. What the fans sense are their values around themes such as cohesion and friendship, which John Coffey skillfully convey at their live shows. This was followed by a seven-year creative hiatus, which they quickly interrupted with touring. And John Coffey seem to have tasted blood. The five musicians - twin brothers Alfred and Richard (guitar and bass), David (vocals), Christoffer Erik (guitar) and Carsten Willem (drums) - have become a tight-knit team over the years. This can be clearly heard at their shows when they kick off full of steam and energy, and besides all the organized chaos, there is of course a lot of fun involved. So if you didn't get to see them last year, now's your chance. As special guests, they will be accompanied on the upcoming tour by the hardcore punk band State Power from Utrecht, who perform full of hate and emotion. A good mix for three loud, banging evenings in Essen, Tübingen and Koblenz.
