Jörg Seidel - MERCI...MY PERSONAL TRIBUTE TO UDO JÜRGENS

"A project close to my heart and my second musical tribute to Udo Jürgens" is how Jörg Seidel describes his program "The Other Side" - and everything about it is to be taken literally. In 2015, the renowned jazz singer and guitarist from Bremerhaven caused a strong response from the press and critics with his tribute CD "Merci..." and also delighted the audience with convincing new interpretations of the works that led to the musical roots of Udo Jürgens - a jazz fan all his life.

In the follow-up program, Jörg Seidel now presents compositions from Udo Jürgens' phase in the mid-60s to mid-70s, during which he created pieces clearly influenced by jazz - including "Right or wrong", sung by Sarah Vaughan, and the English version of the Ireen Sheer song "Sonntag". "Mein erster Weg", recorded in 1967, also demonstrates the high compositional and linguistic quality of Udo Jürgens, who was never a mainstream pop singer at heart.

Jörg Seidel, the "currently outstanding European jazz singer" - as the "German Jazzpages" wrote - shows how alive Jürgens' music is even many years after it was written. With his new arrangements, he does not want to impose anything on the music that it does not already contain. Together with his top-class band, he lets the poetry of the lyrics speak for themselves, allowing the audience to discover these gems from a whole new perspective.
