Joss Turnbull and Lea Brugnoli collaborate in Joss' new solo TURMOIL, combining electro-acoustic percussion with live projections to create an ever-evolving audio-visual experience.
Percussionist Joss Turnbull is known for his creative exploration of Middle Eastern drumming - from minimalist tombac explorations to raw, electronically augmented soundscapes. His explosive new solo album TURMOIL (Boomslang Records) is an intense journey of self-expression through percussion, voice and heavy electronics. He stretches and destabilizes rhythms, distorting them to the point of disappearance between restraint and discharge - a sonic reflection of uncertainty, tension and the fictions we live by.
Visual artist Lea Brugnoli develops interdisciplinary works at the interface of architecture and cinema and combines them with live video projections. She often collaborates with musicians and creates moving images that react directly to the music. Her works have been presented at numerous light and art festivals in Europe. She has taught projection mapping at the Bauhaus University Weimar and is co-curator of the VJ Open Lab, a visual art collective in Berlin.
