Slow Club proudly presents: Jozef van Wissem
"The night dwells in the day" is the name of the latest record by New York-based Jozef van Wissem. And just as there is something deeper but opposite in every day, Jozef Van Wissem's music also has many different levels, which together create the mystical and beautiful things that make his music so unique.
Jozef Van Wissem himself is a Dutch lute player and composer. But it is not simply playing baroque lute music that makes Jozef so unique. It is rather the fact that through his compositions he creates his very own interface between baroque lute music and modern avant-garde.
His career as a lute player began as a child with learning classical guitar, later he studied lute with Pat O'Brien, a well-known guitarist and lute teacher in New York. In addition to his own compositions, Jozef van Wissem also became known through his collaboration with Jim Jarmusch. He recorded two albums with him as a duo and provided the soundtrack to Jarmusch's film Only Lovers Left Alive.
Jozef Van Wissem is now back on tour in Europe with "The night dwells in the day" and we look forward to welcoming him to the heart of the club for the second time.
