As an astronaut in space, you look at the earth in its entirety and territorial borders disappear. With their debut album "Astronauta', the band ANTIGUA brings out an enchanting collection of songs that address this change of perspective. The musicians follow in the footsteps of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grapelli and reinterpret gipsy swing. The quartet around singer Elsa Johanna Mohr polishes the old sound of the 1930s to a high gloss and creates something new in the process: retro and modern at the same time, committed to tradition but always looking to the future. ANTIGUA enriches the genre of gypsy swing with brilliant original compositions and influences from Latin American music styles. The lyrics, sung in German, Portuguese, French and Spanish, deal with nostalgia and homeland, progress, lethargy and contradictions - primeval human themes that are timeless and transcend generational boundaries.
