Kainkollektiv – Thesmophoria. The New Ancient Theatre

On extensive research trips to Athens and the Peloponnese peninsula, kainkollektiv explored the historical and mythical origins of European theater in ancient Greece. On the trail of the "art of assembly", the artists came across the ancient women's theater festival of the Thesmophoria. In honor of the goddesses Demeter and Persephone, the festival was celebrated every autumn for three days and three nights.

Under the title THESMOPHORIA. THE NEW ANCIENT THEATRE, kainkollektiv and an ensemble of international artists invite you to reinvent the ancient art of care and assembly together with all those present. Their post-antique theater festival is a 30-hour durational performance in which lost gestures and rituals can be shared, learned and tried out. They are intended to allow visions for a good life together in the near future to be imagined, tested and celebrated together.

These visions come to life in performances, dance, music, film, rituals and joint workshops - the so-called care schools. The audience is not only invited to watch and listen, but also to actively participate, experience and stay. If you like, you can spend the full 30 hours in the theater, share time and space together, eat, even spend the night in the theater or come (back) for breakfast together and the morning yoga session.
